History of the journal

The journal Política Internacional has been founded 60 years ago, having gone through three fundamental stages throughout its editorial life. It was instituted in June 1963 by Raúl Roa García, then Chancellor of Cuba, under the edition of the now defunct Institute of International Politics of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba.

In its first stage (1963-1970), the journal was published exclusively in printed format. It included in its pages official statements of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, works of renowned intellectuals, national and foreign specialists in the field of international relations and international politics, as well as the most important speeches of leaders of the Cuban Revolution, among other documents. It also included important analytical documents on vital issues for the underdeveloped nations in the international arena. It also reflected the intense work of Cuban diplomacy in those years, in order to achieve the defense of the country, spread the principles of solidarity and internationalism, especially towards Third World countries. In 1969, however, the journal temporarily ceased its edition and publication.

A second stage began in 2003, when the printed edition and publication of the journal was resumed, with a biannual periodicity. Since then, the publication has been edited by the Instituto Superior de Relaciones Internacionales "Raúl Roa García" (ISRI).

The unquestionable importance of the collection published by the journal Política Internacional, together with the incessant demand from users for its consultation, made it necessary to digitize all the issues of the journal corresponding to the first and second stages. These issues are now digitally preserved in the ISRI Information Center "Dr. Mario García Incháustegui del ISRI¨, where the complete text of each issue can be viewed and consulted in the room.

In 2019, the third and current editorial stage of the journal Política Internacional began. It is now an exclusively digital publication, with a quarterly frequency, becoming a serialized scientific publication in Open Access and peer-reviewed. In addition, it offers its complete content free of charge and easily accessible for consultation and download. There is no fee or charge (APC) for manuscript submission, editorial processing, article evaluation, or any other action necessary to complete the publication process.

Política Internacional's mission is to publish and disseminate, nationally and internationally, articles and other forms of scientific communication that contribute to the study, updating and debate of political science, with special emphasis on international relations and the analysis of international politics. It is addressed to academics, public administration officials, professionals and scholars of international relations in Cuba and the rest of the world. It accepts contributions in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese.

The journal was certified by CITMA in 2020 as a Scientific-Technological Serial Publication (Code 2295920), complying with the certification requirements foreseen in Resolution 59/2003 of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of the Republic of Cuba. It is also registered in the National Registry of Serial Publications (No. 2092) and has an electronic ISSN (2707-7330) and printed ISSN (1810-9330).
